I’m a big fan of David Fullarton. I like paintings that have words in them, because I don’t know, I guess I’m some kind of philistine or something who can’t get art unless it’s explained to me explicitly, although I did understand the end of the movie Doubt even though I feel like most people didn’t and I remain very proud of that fact, and I find many conversations about institutional religion fascinating, but a lot of them bore me because I feel like they’re attacks lobbed from without, as opposed to someone like John Patrick Shanley who grew up in the church and has a respect for it while at the same time sees all its problems and really knows what he’s talking about, and while it’s sad that Christopher Hitchens is dead because yes, a person is dead and that is sad, I won’t especially miss him, and if I were an atheist I would find anti-theists like him and Bill Maher as embarrassing as I personally find people who promote hate under the guise of Judiasm or any other religion, and I’m sorry, I have gotten way off-track here, my point is I know I’m not easy to shop for, because receiving gifts generally makes me uncomfortable, but I don’t have a lot of art, and the walls of my room are very naked, so if someone wanted to buy me or make me some art, particularly art that had words, I’m sure I would love it.
